While I regret that I am unable to greet you in person, I do want to offer my best wishes at this time. Like you, I understand the importance of sports in our society, and I share your enthusiasm for athletic competition. The principles of good sportsmanship, fair play, and constructive competition are important in all walks of life; and the enjoyment of this tournament will provide all of you with an opportunity to appreciate those principles.
